It seems that every project in the web 3 space is determined to reach for the moon however few are capable of breaking free of anything other than a Newtonian model concerning gravity. Despite operating with the best of intentions while pushing towards, and in some cases, advancing the goals that set apart decentralized autonomous organizations from traditional business models.
While being lauded by a number of highly eloquent iconoclasts whom are not only insistent but verging on dogmatic in their belief in the necessity of a radical top-down societal restructuring enabled by these nascent technologies they have been developing. Although these same technologies do have the potential to change the world and fundamentally alter existing economic paradigms there we are just emerging from the stone age into the bronze age of blockchain and are still a far cry from the age of enlightenment. Similarly sophomoric are the communications within and between these decentralized autonomous organizations which far more closely resemble the chaos and fervor which inspired the call to arms that swept through Europe preceding the crusades than the laser-guided precision you might find on the modern battlefield. Some economic realities are as inescapable as the laws of physics and the pressures imposed by the marketplace act on these new business models just as pressure does on a sealed vessel lacking a resilient and well-designed form.
When development and research come to a close end the thrill of debating and outlining potential solutions begin to giveaway to the challenges engineering poses, there is a tendency for the differences in opinion which were initially a major vector of engagement for these fledgling communities to turn from discourse to conflict and exuberance to burnout. In most cases, these decentralized organizational models lack any structure or party with the authority to push forward the aligned objectives required to complete complex projects. Even with adoption still nascent a majority of projects in the web 3 space now necessitate a team in possession of a plurality of different disciples and technical expertise.
These internal pressures are coupled with oftentimes unrealistic time frames for development cycles, ever-expanding goals, and a constantly changing cast of characters comprising most teams. This unstable environment is what causes many of these projects to go supercritical and rupture and fork endlessly, without ever equalizing the pressures of the marketplace exerting equal pressure evenly across the outside of these metaphorical vessels. So in the same way a bottle of ketchup under a vacuum is bound to burst my prediction is that we will see many of these Haute and boutique groups continue to remain decentralized, autonomous in a sense, and far less so maintain the structure expected of an organization of any type the as this first round of attempts go the way of the dodo.
